< >Tourism in Bhutan began in 1974 when the government opened its isolated country to foreigners to generate revenue and promote Bhutanese culture and traditions to the outside world. In 1974, a total of 287 tourists visited the kingdom. The number of visitors increased to 2,850 in 1992 and grew dramatically to 7,158 in 1999. By the late 1980s, tourism contributed over US$2 million annually in revenue.

  South Asia Tourists per day stay      Tax rate is minimum. Foreign         tourists rest of the world per day tax USD 100 per-night.

 The daily tax for foreign tourists in Bhutan is   the  Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), which   is $100 per person per night for most nationalities, as of June 2023. Bangladeshi tourists receive a reduced rate of $15 per person per night, up to the first 15,000 visitors annually; thereafter, they pay the standard rate of $100 per night.

Mostly Indian tourists visit the maximum number yearly.

From 2022 to 2023,  tourists visited 83,599

           2023-2024,       tourists visited about 75, 690

  From 2024-2025,   tourists visited about 95,633

  • Regional Arrivals: Mainly from India and neighboring countries, which historically make up the largest share.
  • International Arrivals: Consisting of visitors from a wide range of markets such as the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, France, Australia, and others.
