President Trump says Israel and Hamas have agreed on the first phase of a peace framework that will allow for the swift release of all hostages. CNN's Kristen Holmes and Jeremy Diamond have the details.

< >Moreover, Citizens from Israel, Gaza, Yemen, Spain, and around the world express hope and optimism following the Gaza ceasefire announcement as part of the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan. People share their joy over the potential for lasting peace and an end to conflict and hostilities.

Eventually, the war in Gaza has taken a dramatic new turn. In the last 24 hours, Hamas fighters have launched one of their most aggressive assaults on Israeli forces since the beginning of this conflict — and for the first time in weeks, reports suggest the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are struggling to hold their positions.

On the other hand, in January 2025, a peer-reviewed analysis of deaths during the Gaza war from October 2023 to June 30, 2024, was published in 'The Lancet'. The paper estimated 64,260 deaths from traumatic injuries during this period, likely exceeding 70,000 by October 2024, with 59.1% of them being women, children, and the elderly. It concluded that the GHM undercounted trauma-related deaths by 41% in its report and also noted that its findings "underestimate the full impact of the military operation in Gaza, as they do not account for non-trauma-related deaths resulting from health service disruption, food insecurity, and inadequate water and sanitation. A comparable figure for May 2025 would be 93,000 (77,000 to 109,000), representing 4–5% of Gaza's pre-war population.

Palestine Short History

During World War I, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration, which supported establishing a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine and took control away from the Ottomans. The League of Nations assigned Britain mandatory authority over Palestine in 1922. British rule and Arab efforts to prevent Jewish migration led to increasing violence between Arabs and Jews, prompting the British to announce plans to end the Mandate in 1947. The UN General Assembly recommended dividing Palestine into two states: one Arab and one Jewish. However, the situation escalated into a civil war. Arabs rejected the Partition Plan, while the Jews appeared to accept it, declaring the independence of the State of Israel in May 1948 after the British mandate ended. Nearby Arab countries invaded Palestine, and Israel not only survived but also gained more territory than outlined in the 'Partition Plan." At the height of the conflict, many Palestinians were forced to flee their homeland. At that time, the Arabs rejected the "partition plan." Nevertheless, the Jews accepted it and took the land anyway. Jews have never returned to Palestine.
