Major Crops: Bangladesh's primary agricultural products include rice, jute, tea, wheat, maize, sugarcane, and vegetables, with rice being the staple food and the most widely cultivated crop.

  1. Contribution to GDP: Agriculture contributes about 13-14% to Bangladesh’s GDP and employs nearly 40% of the workforce, making it a crucial sector for the economy.

  2. Irrigation and Technology: The country heavily relies on irrigation, High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds, and modern agricultural techniques to boost production, especially in rice and wheat farming.

  3. Livestock and Fisheries: Apart from crops, the livestock (cattle, poultry, dairy) and fisheries (inland and marine fishing) sectors significantly contribute to food security and exports.

  4. Challenges: Climate change, natural disasters (floods, cyclones, droughts), land degradation, and salinity intrusion pose major threats to agricultural productivity.

  5. Government Initiatives: The government supports agriculture through subsidies on fertilizers, irrigation, and seeds, along with research and development programs to enhance productivity and sustainability.
